Capability category

HVAC and mechanical

Mechanical trades installing, connecting and commissioning the air and water systems that keep critical plant within temperature.

The best hvac and mechanical are already working. Poachd exists so their capability is discoverable without them having to apply for anything.

Free for tradespeople, permanently. Companies pay for access and on a confirmed placement.

What this capability actually covers

Capability is the specific work someone can do and has done, not the job title on their last payslip.
  • Air handling unit, fan wall and CRAC or CRAH installation
  • Chilled water pipework, pumps and valve sets
  • Ductwork, dampers and air balancing
  • Controls interface and mechanical commissioning support
  • Plantroom fitout and mechanical services coordination

Where the work is

Data halls and plantrooms, hospitals, clean rooms and fabs, commercial towers, food and pharmaceutical facilities and industrial process plant.

What companies are really screening for

  • Experience on the scale of plant the project actually uses
  • Water-side and air-side balancing and commissioning capability
  • Relevant trade qualifications and refrigerant handling where applicable
  • Availability across the commissioning window, not just install

Why a verified record of capability matters

Cooling is the other half of a critical facility, and mechanical capability at scale is scarce. Installing split systems and cutting over a chilled water loop on a live campus are not the same skill, so the record has to show which plant someone has actually worked on.

How this appears on a Poachd Passport

  • Plant types and capacities worked on
  • Mechanical commissioning and balancing experience
  • Trade qualifications and handling licences
  • Region, mobility and availability

Industries drawing on this capability

The same people are being pulled between these markets, which is what makes the capability scarce.
  • data centre workforce - Hyperscale and colocation campuses need licensed electrical, mechanical and commissioning capability in volume, on fixed energisation dates.
  • construction workforce - Major construction programmes are increasingly constrained by trade capability rather than by design, funding or approvals.
  • infrastructure workforce - Water, transport, tunnels and public assets need technical trades who can work inside live systems and strict approval regimes.
  • energy workforce - Generation, transmission, storage and renewables are all building at once, drawing on the same licensed electrical and mechanical capability.

Other capability categories

  • Electricians - Licensed electrical workers installing, terminating, testing and energising power systems on critical infrastructure projects.
  • Electrical supervisors - Leading hands, site supervisors and electrical leads who run crews, sequence electrical work and carry the quality and safety load on site.
  • Instrumentation and controls - Technicians who install, terminate, calibrate and prove the control and monitoring systems that make plant behave predictably.
  • Refrigeration - Licensed refrigeration trades working on chillers, heat rejection and refrigerant systems that critical facilities depend on.
  • Fitters - Mechanical fitters who install, align, maintain and repair rotating and static plant to tolerance.
